AFC Corsham U13 vs Worton & Cheverell
By David Partington
Another difficult game
Our first home league game of the season and an air expectation was being held by both the coaches and parents/fans alike.
As we lined up against the team of giants we had a feeling that today was going to be a difficult day. We had two very close matches against Worton last season in which we came out on top but this season proved to different.
We again started the game a little slowly that resulted in us being a goal down in a matter of minutes and we found it difficult to come back from that early upset.
For most of the first half we found ourselves under immense pressure that resulted in Worton grabbing a second goal and some solid work by the whole of the back line ensured we kept the score down.
We did manage a few breakaways one of which resulted in us being awarded a penalty for a trip on Rhys which Rhys calmly slotted into the bottom corner. 2-1 at half-time, game on.
The second half continued in much the same vein as the first with the very strong and physical Worton applying lots of pressure on the man and ball. In pretty much a carbon copy of the first half we conceded another 2 goals before being awarded another penalty for a push on Tobin. Rhys again took the penalty which was well saved by the keeper but good following by the boys ensured that Rhys bagged the rebound.
The final score ended with a 4-2 defeat whilst facing a very strong and well developed team for the second week in a row.
This weeks notable performances came from Ben B, Ben P, Liam, Rhys and man of the match Zeke with a side note for Daniel who suffered a painful groin injury that forced him out of the game at half time, from which we wish him a speedy recovery, to be replaced by Angus who did very well in his first appearance of the season in goal.
Time now for the guys to recharge and regroup for next weeks challenge at Trowbridge that will hopefully kick start our season.
