As the dust settles on what was another record-breaking AFC Corsham Grassroots Football Tournament, we want to take a moment to shine the spotlight on someone whose remarkable efforts too often go unseen – our own Aaron Bewley, and his team at AJB Funeral Directors.
Every year, Aaron and his business go above and beyond to help us deliver a tournament that not only runs smoothly, but truly stands out as one of the best in the region. Without their logistical expertise, dedication and sheer hard work, the event simply wouldn’t be possible.
The Backbone of the Tournament
From coordinating access and setup to ensuring facilities are safe and accessible, Aaron’s team leads on almost every logistical element of the event. This includes:
Preparing and securing use of the farmers’ field for essential overflow parking
Ensuring protection of the natural burial ground next to Leafy Lane
Supplying generators, pitch painting with JH Jones & Sons, and printing signage across the site
Organising Respect barriers, gazebos, traffic cones, and even borrowing benches and bins from town partners
Arranging overnight security, heating tea urns, and liaising with sponsors
It was also Aaron’s idea to introduce the Finals Pitch, now a signature part of our tournament and a true highlight for young players.
A Personal Commitment
Despite leading all these efforts, Aaron still finds time to coach one of our U12 teams and cheer on his U15 son – all while clocking up over 136,000 steps (61 miles!) across the event. He’s first on site despite Simon’s efforts and often last to leave, giving his all so others can enjoy an unforgettable weekend.
A Sustainable Legacy
Aaron, together with Mo Hooker and the team at Sporting Billy, has also pioneered our sustainable awards – introducing bespoke wooden trophies and slate-based medals that reflect our values and raise the standard of presentation at grassroots level.
Beyond the Tournament
Their support doesn’t end there. AJB Funeral Directors have made a VERY generous donation to our 3G pitch fundraising campaign and even ran in the Corsham 10K to raise awareness and funds for the club.
Our Heartfelt Thanks
Aaron, your work ethic, creativity, humility and commitment to the club are nothing short of inspirational. From all of us at AFC Corsham – thank you.
We’re lucky to have you as part of the team, and even luckier to call you one of our own. As Simon steps away as chairman of the club we are confident that your energy as Chairman will continue the direction our club is heading - onwards & upwards!
