The FA has launched its Future Fit programme, a new vision for how grassroots football will develop across England. The focus is simple: more touches, more fun, and more skilful players.
One of the biggest changes is the introduction of 3v3 football for younger players. Research shows that smaller-sided games mean every child gets more time on the ball, more chances to make decisions, and more opportunities to score goals. For our youngest age groups at AFC Corsham, this will mean less waiting around and more involvement in every match.
The programme also introduces age-appropriate rules and formats to make the game safer and more enjoyable. For example, deliberate heading will be phased out in U7–U11 matches over the next three seasons and pass-ins will replace throw-ins at some age groups. These changes are designed to help children focus on developing their skills while reducing risks.
For AFC Corsham, these updates align with our club philosophy of putting player development and enjoyment first. As a community club, we welcome the shift towards formats that encourage creativity, confidence, and teamwork — all values we already promote across all our teams.
In short, Future Fit is about ensuring football grows with our players. It’s less about early results and more about giving every child the best possible chance to fall in love with the game for life.
