First league game of the season!
It was great to get the season up and running. I had high hopes for a victory today after last season's game against Derry Hill being a tight game in which I thought we should've finished off with a win. Today's game started with most of the team slowly getting out of the blocks and things that i thought we had sorted out last season- not attacking the ball, not waiting for the ball to come to us, closing down at speed, not waving a leg or jumping instead of tackling the player with the ball, they all came back again for most of the players meaning that we ended the first half 4-2 down. We did have some bright spells in the first half, some good passing moves towards the end of the half, Radek scoring 2 good goals, we got unlucky with some of our finishing. Solid performances from William Peach and Lucas Bond also high points in the first half.
At half time there was a harsh and strong team talk as I believed we could do so much better than we were playing. The second half was generally better but the boys still weren't on top form but another goal from Radek brought us back to within 1 goal and the team were improving as the game went on showing a bit more confidence with the ball and started working more as a team- great to see! Derry Hill got another goal which had the boys heads go down and a couple of missed chance. I thought the first game was going to end in defeat but the boys got a second wind towards the end of the game with Troy calmly slotting past the keeper. The last few minutes of the game the boys were brilliant showing great effort to get the ball and quickly start attacks which we could've scored a couple more but Derry Hill got back and cleared their lines. One of the final attacks payed off with I think Troy having another chance at goal causing the keeper to make a save that he couldn't hold onto and Fonsey following the ball in to slot home the equaliser meaning the game was all square with 30 seconds left. A great finish to the game and something to build on for the rest of the season. I feel there is much more to come from the team so well done to the boys for not giving up until the final whistle.
This week we gave 2 MOTM and they went to William Peach for his fantastic display of composure and determination to win the ball back. He also tried to play his way out of trouble and not boot it away. Fantastic!!
The second went to Lucas Bond for fantastic mental strength after a mistake in the first half he kept going and swept up through balls when needed and pulled off a couple of fine saves which meant we could get the draw. Great Effort!
