First win of the season

Firstly Really good game today from the boys, played really nice football especially in the first half! We spoke before the game about overlaps and how we can use them to our advantage. We had some great ideas from the team on how we can use them in the game, I asked the players if they could think of a little warm up that included overlapping and Troy stepped up and explained to all the team what he wanted to do and it looked like a really good drill so thanks Troy.

The first half like I said at the start was really really impressive, great passing and footwork from everyone with lots of energy and hard work. Everyone seemed calm on the ball and making good decisions moving the ball around. We had goals from Radek, Cory, Fonsey and Archie meaning we went in at half time 4-1 up. The goals were well taken and impressive in their own right even the scrappy one from Fonsey which showed determination from 2/3 players to not let the ball be taken by the Dilton keeper and finally poke it home. Archie's goal taken on 4 defenders and calmly finishing in the bottom corner was fantastic. Cory's goal was a great pass from MOTM Edward who noticed great movement from Cory who took a great first touch and turn on the ball to rifle past the keeper. Radek's long range effort bouncing before the keeper showed great technique and confidence in his ability. All great goals! We were caught out only a few times in the first half from long balls but it was a great finish from the Dilton striker for their first goal of the game.

The second half was still a good performance but I think a mixture of fatigue and a change in formation from Dilton meant the created more attacking chances which in general the defence dealt with well. We still managed to create some good opportunities but didn't manage to convert as many as we should of but the build up and movement was really good. A goal from Lucas who did well to slot the ball home after some good work on the left from Freddie meant we took a 5-1 lead. Dilton stepped things up again and put us under more pressure from long balls over the top and they managed to grab 2 goals (probably deservedly so) which gave them confidence to keep pushing on. Instead of the boys panicking they kept calm and tried to play nice football with confidence in each other. Highlighted by some great touches from Angus who could of easily booted the ball long or out for a throw instead opting to play the ball sideways so we could move up into space. At times it felt like watching the arsenal team that wanted to over pass the ball in the box before taking a shot but I guess that shows the level of confidence they have in each other to deal with the ball under pressure.

Today MOTM went to Edward who played in a new position today for the team and myself and Frazer thought he did really well and was solid throughout. We could of given MOTM to any of them as we thought, I'm sure you did to, that it was a great team performance from start to finish. Well done team the first 3 points of the season and still unbeaten after the first 2 games.
