Fantastic game!!!

Wow! What a game this morning. I thought the boys did brilliant and showed great character to come from behind against top of the table Trowbridge. We started the game brightly creating a couple of decent chances but just couldn’t find that final ball into the back of the net. After about 10/15 mins Trowbridge stepped up their efforts showing why they where top of the table before today’s game creating a string of chances but our defence scrambled well when needed but couldn’t stop Trowbridge taking a 3-0 lead after the third goal I was so happy (which sounds like an odd thing to say going 3-0 down so early in a game) to see that without myself or Frazer saying anything a couple of the boys were encouraging their team mates and telling them to “keep going” and “we can still do this” and “don’t give up”. That’s is fantastic and that character and confidence proved too strong, we came back before half time with goals and good goals to be fair from Archie and 2 from Troy taking us in at 3-3. The score line only tells half a story and the ref had a day he may well want to forget for missed fouls and offsides that weren’t and then giving soft fouls etc (but we must remember, myself included, that we shouldn’t and can’t make comments to the ref during games as they only do their best and without the ref we wouldn’t be able to have the official games), the quality at times from both teams in the first half was brilliant I especially like the way we played the ball to the keeper to help playout of trouble (it was the reason for the first goal conceded but I want to see the boys playing team football and being confident with the ball not just kicking it out for a throw or corner).
The second half was great some solid defending and great break away goals and again some amazing finishes. I’ll be honest I’m not 100% sure what the final score was I was told it was 7-3 but looking back through my phone for goal scorers I counted 8-3. The score line doesn’t mean anything really I was just so impressed with the way the boys played and kept together as a team and I honestly think today the better team got the win. Next week Trowbridge come to leafy lane for the return fixture and I’m sure they will be really up for the game. See you all at training on Monday hopefully.
